UK Action Projects
Revitalise UK Action Project
Revitalise is a national UK charity providing respite care in a holiday setting for disabled people and carers for over 50 years. Revitalise offers inspirational opportunities for volunteers through one of the largest and most diverse volunteering programmes of any UK charity.
Volunteers provide companionship and support to guests by chatting with them at meal times, making teas or coffees, accompanying them on daily excursions to local sites and enjoying the evening entertainment with them. Friendly, enthusiastic volunteers, create the holiday atmosphere just by being there!
The role also involves some personal support such as assisting with mobility and eating and drinking but you won’t be asked to do anything you aren’t comfortable with. Volunteers also support in the dining room with serving breakfast, washing up after dinner and laying the tables for the next day, but done as part of a team this doesn’t take long!
Volunteers staying more than 2 weeks can choose to receive training in how to provide higher levels of care to guests. It is up to each volunteer how far they progress with the training and the speed at which they would like to complete the elements. Check out the Revitalise website for more information about their volunteer programme. Revitalise can only accept direct volunteers if they do not require a visa to undertake volunteer work in the UK. For all other nationals, Lattitude offers the only sponsored visa option!

Primary Schools Action Project
Lattitude works with Primary Schools in the Reading area to provide volunteers who can be an extra assistant in a busy classroom and also help with, for example, languages, sport and art, depending on their interests and experience. Volunteers will be part of the wider school team and gain valuable experience in a school setting, as well as making an important contribution. Volunteers wanting a greater challenge may have the opportunity to run after school clubs in areas such as Spanish or sports. Teaching foreign languages is mandatory in UK state primary schools but this can be a challenge for schools whose teachers are not language specialists and resources are already stretched. Volunteers with native Spanish, French, German and even Chinese would be put to good use!
One of our partner schools is The Heights Primary Caversham, a new, Government funded, non-selective, highly inclusive primary school. The school opened in September 2014 with 2 reception classes and Year 1 in response to an increasing need for Primary School places in the area. It is growing organically, with 2 new reception classes of 25 children per class joining every year and will reach its full capacity of 350 children across reception to Year 6 in 2020.
The UK academic year is split into 6 half terms (roughly 6 weeks each) or 3 full terms (roughly 12 weeks each). Volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of one half term for this Action Project, starting in January or September.
School holidays (excluding Summer Holiday) will be included in the visa dates and allow for free travel.
You can add on additional weeks at the end of the Primary School placement and volunteer with Revitalise, at no extra fee!
