Case studies from past volunteers and how it has affected their life

> Janet volunteered in India in 1997

Janet’s experience in India encouraged her to choose a career as a paramedic

“I still can’t believe how lucky I am to have done all these things – my advice to anyone considering a gap year would be to think of something you’re interested in, and volunteer doing it”

>Josy volunteered in Japan, she now works for the Japan Foundation

After her placement in Japan, Josy loved the country and culture so much she chose to work for the Japan Foundation.

“Once you’ve fully immersed yourself in a country and culture and fallen in love, it’s hard to stop going back. I’ve been back to Japan five times since my Lattitude placement; I’ve lived there in total for three and a half years, and have been back for holidays.”

>Leila took a career break encouraging young Ghanaians to volunteer in the UK

Having worked in various London PR agencies for over ten years, Leila was looking for a change of scene and to give something back.

No two days in the eight weeks I was there were ever the same, and it did call on a lot of proactivity, which was exactly what I wanted!
