November Christmas Markets

Posted on the 7th November 2018

It’s the most wonderful time… of the year!! Maybe not quite yet, we must admit Christmas decorations have surrounded us a lot earlier than we find acceptable, however no body is denying their love for the festive spirit as the sun goes back to bed and the days get shorter and darker.

Don’t let the month fool you, although most of us think of December as the Christmas month, Christmas markets are just around the corner, popping up in the next couple of weeks. Make sure to check the dates, and find any excuse for a festive beverage and some pretty bright lights!

We’ve put together a list of the 7 top markets to visit around the UK. Most of them rather well known, but ALL of them worth a visit! If you can’t quite make it to any of these merry sites, make sure to visit your local markets and keep an eye out for the Christmas Lights Switch-On events! Most importantly, make sure to stay warm, whether it’s a Christmas hat or a mulled wine, either will do!

Edinburgh (16 November- 5 January)

The never ending traditional Christmas stalls will be found at Princes Street Gardens, with a huge range of artisan gifts, food and beverages. Children can also enjoy Santa Land with fairground rides, a Christmas Tree Maze and if they are lucky, a quick chat with Santa. If you’re feeling a little more active, head over to St Andrews Square for a spin on the ice rink, with a view!

Manchester (9 November- 23 December)

According to the travel website Booking.com, Manchester Christmas Market was ranked number one. This one is not one to miss, as this year will be the last (for the next four years) to be held in Albert Square. The stalls are spread across the city with endless gift ideas, culinary delicacies, guaranteed to get you in the festive spirit!

Winchester (17 November- 20 December)

Coming in at second place, this beautiful market is set up next to the breath-taking Winchester cathedral. Inspired by traditional German markets, the combination of wooden chalets, the enchanting nativity scene and the open-air ice rink will make for a perfect day to explore the local architecture and history.

York (15 November- 23 December)

Set in the beautiful medieval city of York, the market could be no less. It offers plenty of local produce, ice skating, and the best part, festive pantomimes. Check out St. Nicholas Fair, Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square for an evening full of celebratory food samples!

Lincoln (6 December- 9 December)

Set in the heart of the medieval city, Lincoln Christmas market comes and goes in a flash. The historic and enchanting gothic cathedral makes the perfect backdrop to the 200 stalls there are to explore. Despite its short lasting joyful presence, this market was ranked third in the country!

London (22 November-6 January)

We can all agree that London is an all-round magical place to be around the Christmas season. It has a number of Christmas markets spread across the city, yet the mother of them all is undoubtedly the famous Winter Wonderland. This fantastic event has it all, from market stalls, to Santa Land, funfair rides and even and ice kingdom. Get involved in ice sculpting workshops, or just enjoy the live music concerts dotted across the park.

Bath (22November- 9 December)

Brimming with local designers, the Bath Christmas Market is the perfect place for unique gift shopping, from homeware to Christmas decorations. There are sights and smells throughout to satisfy any appetite, including burgers, hog roasts and mulled wine.
